Of Dartamore Prison/Hunting Lice & Fleas/The Sharks of Dartamore.
Three poems written by Joseph Valpey, an American prisoner of war in Dartmoor Prison in the early 1800’s. He was born in Salem, Massachusetts on 24 June 1792, captured at sea by the British on 15 August 1814 and reached Dartmoor Prison on 1 November 1814. He was released at the end of April 1815 but died at sea on his voyage home on 24 March 1816. He is buried in Havana, Cuba. With thanks to Tom Greeves.
